i got this recipe from a neighbor of mine. these are SO moist and delish!
ingredients:
2 cups milk
2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 beaten eggs
2 1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup cold water
3 1/2 Tbsp. yeast (almost 6 packages)
8 cups flour (approx.)
butter
brown sugar
cinnamon
heat milk and shortening until shortening is melted. add sugar, salt and eggs. stir. add 1 cup cold water.
separately, dissolve yeast into 1/2 cup warm water. then add to milk mixture.
add 4 cups flour and mix well. add enough more flour (approx. 4 more cups) to make a sticky dough. DO NOT KNEAD. let rise double in bulk. divide dough in half and roll 1/2 inch thick. sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon (i spread the dough with softened butter first). roll like jelly roll.
place on greased cookie sheet. let rise 1 hour. bake at 425 for 10 min. COOL IN PANS.
frosting:
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup butter, softened
5 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup plus 1 Tbsp. milk
blend shortening, vanilla and butter. add 3 cups powdered sugar and milk. mix well. add 2 1/2 cups more powdered sugar and whip well. FROST COLD ROLLS.
enjoy.
